For the last few falls, a group of club members has travelled up to the Kettunen Center in Tustin, MI with faculty members Tom Fernandez and Bert Cregg, along with MSU extension agent Mark Hanson to install and maintain a fire-wise landscape in the center's learning arboretum. The premise of this project is to show visitors who live in Michigan that are susceptible to wild fire (more happen than you would think) how to landscape their yards, in order to help stop the spread of the fire before it reaches their homes. We will be returning once again this fall on the weekend of September 17-19. We generally work for a few hours on Saturday morning, followed by hiking and kayaking in the afternoon and a fire in the evening. This is free for members to partake in, lodging is included, as well as all meals.
